Korczak emphasized that children need to be allowed to take responsibility for their own learning, take short breaks and have places where they can reflect and be quiet. The Five Star Program® can be used at home while doing the homework and parents are encourage to read The Five Star Program® Teacher’s Guide. Children love to set up the Take a Break area, which they often call Sacred Space in their rooms at home.

Parents are also encouraged to read Korczak’s books. They are also encouraged to read his children’s books to their own children. Reading to children opens up the possibility for meaningful discussion since many of Korczak’s ideas are pearls of wisdom and can be of great help for both parents and children.
