During World War II, when offered safety, Korczak chose instead to remain with the 192 children in his care. In an act of profound love and moral courage, he accompanied them to Treblinka, refusing to abandon them in their final moments. For this, he is remembered as a Holocaust hero—one whose legacy continues to challenge and inspire generations.
